What a stupid talent.

My life, Random Stuff

I guess I am what you would call and auditory learner.  I love audio books and podcasts.  Most days while my kids are napping you will find me busy at housework with ear buds tucked nicely in my ears.   Oddly enough, I have noticeably small ears.  My grandma used to tell the story about when I was born my ears were like my Dad’s; no bigger than a fingernail.  That does not seem to affect their ability to distinguish voices at such accuracy that it is actually something I am known for in my family.

While watching ANY animated TV show I can tell you, with stunning accuracy, who is performing the characters’ voices (if the actor or person is well known).  Sometimes it get really creepy when the person is NOT well known but does multiple characters on several different and separate shows and I recognize it.  I will say something like, “The guy who does the voice for Ed the Frog on this Musical Baby DVD is the same guy who plays the giant in Jack’s Big Music Show.”  A search on Google will confirm my golden ears have struck again with eerie accuracy.

Why on Earth, if I have to a talent, does it have to be so useless?  I always dreamed of being a singer.  Adored by fans.  Showered with fame and fortune.  Instead I sit on my couch and recognize that the guy who plays Fez from That 70′s Show does the voice for Handy Manny!!  No one cheers.  No one pays me.

How stupid and useless.

I would just like to say Thank you for confirming the Handy Manny voice for me. I would like to CHEER for you on that one.
I was sitting there the other day and watching that show with Bre and thinking the same thing about the voice not about the useless talent of yours.
I think that is why I love you:) You can do that, Elizabeth can name any song and singer, Jerriann is book smart one and I am just ME:)

Oh, thank goodness. I have been HUNTING for a small-eared, voice recognition package to run my multi-million pound corporation – it involves staying home with kids and looking at blogs….are you interested?!

Your ‘useless’ skill is part of you…so that’s NOT useless.

I do not think that is useless talent. That is one of the reason I love you. The other day when I was watching Handy Manny with Bre I was thinking the same thing. Not about your talent, but about who the voice was. So I give you cheers for validanting my thought.
Everyone has useless talents, look at Elizabeth she can tell you any song and who sings it. That gets her nowhere, but makes her an individual.

Here from ICLW. That is interesting maybe you just need to find an outlet for this talent. I have a hard time hearing anything at all! You have very cute kids!

You would be PERFECT at testing out those hearing testing machines (beep…. BEEEP…. beep).

LOL! I’m also addicted to audiobooks and podcasts, but I did not know that the actor who played Fez was the voice of Handy Manny!

    Here from ICLW…
Unlike you, I am more of a visual learner. Even though I listen to audiobooks for convenience, I don’t get nearly as much out of them as I would if I read the book.

Your cartoon voice actor skills is amazing, even if there aren’t many practical uses for it! Party trick, maybe?

Perhaps you just haven’t found the right opportunity for your amazing ears. Keep looking – it could be worth millions, right?

Wow, that is pretty cool…some talent is better than no talent, right? :) Thanks for your congrats – I’m hopefully getting to where you are sooner than I expected!! :)

I don’t know, I think that’s pretty cool. But that’s coming from someone who can’t recognize the same character in a movie from one scene to the next.

Cute post, enjoyed it from my ICLW hopping.

I can usually tell voices of the characters as well, my kids get all annoyed. They like to think of the character, not the person behind the voice, lol.

When I start to tell people about “my wife’s special talent” they seem very intrigued at first, but then they lose interest.
    Why is that?
